With all the drama surrounding John Travolta with the countless sexual harrassment claims by a few professional body massagers, it looks like the devout Scientologist has taken the phrase "mile high club" to a whole new level.
The National Enquirer (via RadarOnline) is reporting that the actor has had a six year affair with his pilot.
According to Travolta's former secretary Joan Edwards, who worked for the actor from 1978-1994, says that Travolta was in a long-term relationship with his pilot Doug Gotterba. Edwards is also the first former employee of Travolta's to declare the actor as a homosexual man. “I did everything for him, including taking care of his personal and professional schedules. Of course I knew he was gay. It never bothered me,” she is quoted as telling the Enquirer.
She also revealed that she was well aware of Travolta's affair with Gotterba, who became an employee for the actor in 1981. "That's how I met Doug. We both worked for John at the same time. Doug is a wonderful guy and we are still good friends. He told me that John was gay and they had a sexual relationship," she said.
In the article Gotterba does not say whether or not he had a relationship wit hthe actor, but he did confirm that he worked for Travolta. But Robert Britz, a man Gotterba was in a relationship with after breaking up with the actor spilled the tea to the Enquirer, saying, "Doug told me right at the beginning of our relationship that he'd had a homosexual relationship with John Travolta in the 1980s. Doug said John was constantly grabbing at his genital area, but he put up with John's sexual advances because working for him was 'lucrative.’”
Now here's where it gets real interesting. Britz revealed that he was shown a home video of Gotterba and Travolta in a hotel room. "I personally saw about two minutes of Doug's home video showing John Travolta sitting at the end of a bed with his shirt off. There were plates of food in front of him. The video appeared to be shot in a hotel room. Doug made it clear that it was very lucrative for him to be what he called John's 'personal right hand man' and homosexual partner," he said.
Britz also revealed that Gotterba became sexually turned off from the actor when he started fluxuating with his weight and the hairiness of his body.
"After a few years, Doug grew apart from John sexually, and John's advances eventually started to repulse him," Britz said. "The relationship ended shortly thereafter."
The minute Travolta started reaching A-list status in Hollywood, author Wensley Clarkson claims his team scrambled to hide his homosexuality by setting him up on a date with 16-year-old starlet Brooke Shields.
"The supposed relationship reached a head when John was being interviewed by a magazine journalist and just happened to take two lovey-dovey phone calls from Brooke during the interview," Clarkson wrote in his 1997 biography John Travolta: Back in Character.
"Close friends of John knew perfectly well there was no romance with Brooke. But the rumors certainly helped to improve John's image."
As we all know Travolta has been married to his wife Kelly Preston since 1991, and Gotterba, 60, owns a private jet company out of Santa Barbara, California
With two sexual harrassment lawsuits pending and the revelation of a secret gay relationship 30 years ago, it's not looking good for John and his legendary Scientolohole. While I could say I feel bad for Kelly, I don't. I believe she knows about her husband and his alleged feelings for men, but chooses to turn a blind eye. I always believe in Hollywood especially, when they set you up in an arranged marriage out of fear of being outed and losing marketability that they only get pissed when the jig is up. Since John's career isn't as hot as it once was (let's be clear- the last time he had a hit movie was when he did Face/Off with Nicolas Cage), this would be the best time for him to come out of the same closet he and Queen Latifah like to throw their parties in. But he'll most likely get his powerful lawyers to go after the National Enquirer before he comes out of anything, least of all a closet.
