BOARDWALK EMPIRE STAR MICHAEL K. WILLIAMS TO PLAY ODB IN UPCOMING BIOPIC
Actor Michael K. Williams, best known for his memorable run as openly gay gangster Omar Little on The Wire and can currently be seen as Chalkie White on Boardwalk Empire, is in talks to play outrageous Wu Tang Clan rapper Old Dirty Bastard in an upcoming biopic of his life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film, titled Dirty White Boy, will center on the years leading up to Jones's death from a drug overdose, and specifically his relationship with young intern-turned-manager Jarred Weisfeld, who engineered his comeback.
Jones, a co-founder of influential hip-hop collective the Wu-Tang Clan, famously struggled with addiction and had spent time in prison prior to his death in 2004.
The movie will be shot by first-time director Joaquin Baca-Asay, with Beginners producers Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy producing.
I am a big fan of Mickael K. Williams' work, and I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm curious to find out will this biopic be in the movies or on cable? Because as much as ODB was loved in the hip hop community, in this day and age of the new generation thinking hard core hip hop is what comes from Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Garbaj, will this film have the Notorious audience it deserves?
