Finally, good horror has managed to make a killing at the box office.
The horror-comedy, directed Reuben Fleischer, knocked Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs from its number one slot - which it held for two weeks. Zombieland grossed an estimated $25 million. Cloudy came in at number two with $16 million.
The Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3-D re-releases came in at number three with $12.5 million.
Is a Zombieland sequel just around the corner now? Writers Reese and Wernick spoke with Ryan Rotten at Shocktillyoudrop.com that if it grosses enough for Sony to feel secure with a follow-up, we just might see more adventures featuring Columbus and Tallahassee. I'd definitely love to see a sequel if the script is as good as Zombieland was. See Hollywood, an original script that's actually well written and funny can bring audiences to the theaters. Of course they won't get it and instead of greenlighting original scripts, they'll be looking for ten scripts that rip off Zombieland. Word of advice to those making the upcoming series "The Walking Dead" for AMC. if you mix a bit of comedy with your gore in this series, and create a revolving door of characters (since in a world run by zombies people have to die), you just might have a hit on your hands.
